Ideal For Lowering cholesterol, fever, skin irritation, colds and flu symptoms

A natural herbal product, Safflower was used by the Ancient Egyptians for dying and for medicinal uses. It has many ancient as well as modern uses. For centuries it's been used to treat problems with pain. It has also been used to induce a late menses. It can be used to reduce fever and promote sweating. It was once used as a treatment for measles before innoculation made measles scarce.

In modern times, safflower is prized for its oil as well as its medicinal properties. Oil from the seed is pressed and used for cooking. This oil is thought to benefit the circulatory system by lowering cholesterol. Safflower can also be used to soothe skin irritation.

Its botanical name is Carthamus tinctorius. Its common name is safflower, false saffron, American saffron, dyers' saffron. Its arabic name is Usfor or Asfor( meaning yellow, or the color yellow). It is a native of the Mediterranean. The main active ingredient in safflower medicines is safflower yellow, which is water-soluble. The orange-red flowers of safflower sometimes serve as a substitute for saffron, since they give a (rather pale) colour to the food. Their value as spice is nearly nil, but their staining capability justifies usage in the kitchen. The flowers are considered to be diaphoretic, emmenagogue, sedative, stimulant, in large doses, as a laxative. For children's and infants' complaints, such as measles, fevers, and eruptive skin problems. Taken hot, safflower tea produces strong perspiration and has thus been used for colds and related ailments. It has also been used at times for its soothing effect in cases of hysteria. Safflower blossoms are used in tea form to treat hysteria, fevers, phlegm, and panic attacks. It is a strong cathartic, and also clears the lungs and helps phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis). Safflower petals have been shown to have a lot of medicinal and therapeutic values. Indian safflower petal samples were analyzed for the red pigment carthamin, protein and oil contents. The petal oil (4.0–5.8%) was further analyzed for its fatty acids followed by alpha linolenic acid (15–19%) and palmitic acids (14–16%). Gamma linolenic acid, which has good therapeutic value was present to an extent of 2–3%; decanoic and dodecanoic acids (2–5%) were also present.
